I have three children and have used Active Birth Yoga for all pregnancies. I feel these classes are the only way to prepare yourself for birth. You get great yoga, support from women in a similar situation and lots and lots of information. I can't recommend these classes enough.

About Print

The Active Birth Movement grew out of a reaction to increasingly medicalised birth. At its heart is a desire to reclaim natural birth for the normal life event that it is.

Active Birth teachers seek to empower women to trust their instinctive ability to give birth and be confident mothers. We aim to fully involve fathers and to encourage them to share the experiences of pregnancy, birth and parenting with their partners. Core to the principles of Active Birth and Parenting is an understanding of the importance of community and support.

Early leaders in this movement are Janet Balaskas (UK), Ina May Gaskin (USA) and Michel Odent (then in France).

Jane Campbell-Kaye founded Brisbane Active Birth & Yoga when she arrived in Brisbane in 1992. She was trained in London with Janet Balaskas in the early 1990s. Jane has gone on to train further as a Gestalt Therapist.

The community has grown to include Louise Pardo and Suzanne Lister. Our work now also includes postnatal services, one-on-one counselling and group therapy for those who want to explore the changes in their lives, at a deeper level.
